Day 1: Arusha National Park canoe safari and game driveAfter breakfast you’ll be picked up at Arusha Cottage by your driver for a canoe safari in Tanzania's Arusha National Park. Accompanied by an experienced guide you’ll step into a canoe and paddle your way onto the Momela Lakes, surrounded by lush green hills, each a different shade of blue or green. Gliding silently along the banks you might come across elephant, a group of grunting hippos at the water’s edge or a crocodile basking in the sun. After lunch you’ll jump into your 4x4 for a land safari. The jeep has an open roof so you’ll have an unlimited 360 degree view of the area. You’ll go in search of giraffes, warthogs, zebras, flamingos, spotted hyenas and leopard. On the way, you'll pass the Ngurdoto extinct volcanic crater where you’re likely to see buffalo, elephants, and perhaps a few black and white colobus monkeys swinging between the branches above your head. Towards the end of the afternoon you’ll head back to Arusha Cottage, nestled in the green hills just outside Arusha at the foot of the Kilimanjaro. The spacious and tastefully decorated cottages are set in a lovely green garden, with private verandas where you can relax with a cool drink. The outdoor pool is great for a refreshing dip at the end of a hot day. |
