During this Masai Mara trip, you'll get a inside glimpse at the life of the Masai, a proud herder's population in the African savannah. The Masai people are very friendly, warm and hospitable, and their tribe still maintains their own unique culture. You'll head out into the African bush with the Masai and learn about nature from a different perspective - an extraordinary experience.

As part of your visit you'll enter Masai traditional huts, build a fire and learn how to throw a spear. You'll spend the night in our own private camp, overlooking the epic Loita plains. Next, you'll travel on towards Kenya's Masai Mara where you'll spot lions, elephants and herds of zebras on exciting game drives.

This safari is totally private, so you'll travel only with your companions and your english-speaking driver/guide.

Day 1: Nairobi - Maji Moto

Travel time approx. 4 hours

This morning, our driver will pick you up in Nairobi and take you south towards the Masai Mara, Kenya's most famous reserve. You'll drive straight through endless Masai territory, where you'll see proud Masai herders wearing bright red robes which stand out against the barren backdrop of the land and the deep blue sky. Our unique eco camp is located on the fringes of the Masai Mara, overlooking the Loita plains, an area that epitomises the authentic African Savannah with its endless plains interspersed with thorny acacia trees.

This afternoon, you'll go for a walk with the good-natured Masai who will tell you all about their culture. They'll show you trees and plants that have medicinal value and you'll also learn how to use a spear. The Masai love to tell their ancestor's hunting stories and they'll take you to places with incredible views over the immense savannah. In the evening, you'll eat by the campfire as the Masai do their traditional dances and tell you stories.

Day 2: Maji Moto

This morning, you'll make your way to our open air dining area for your home cooked breakfast. Later you'll head deeper into the Masai Mara with the Masai to visit their village. You can meet the Masai children at school, where you are sure to get a warm welcome. After you say your goodbyes you'll walk back to camp for lunch.

At noon when temperatures soar, you can either take a nap or read a book in the shadow of the trees. The camp has many resting points, where you can simply sit back and soak in the epic landscape that unfolds in front of you. Once the temperature has dropped again, you will spend some more time with your Masai Hosts and learn what it is to be a masai warrior. After dinner, you'll go on a night game drive to spot wild animals in the dark. Although you won't see any lions, you may see antelopes and zebras. After the game drive you'll return to your tent in our private camp in Maji Moto while the Masai stand guard.

Day 3: Maji Moto - Masai Mara

Travel time approx. 2 hours

After you've had time to wake up at your own pace you'll head out on a 2 hour drive to the Masai Mara, Kenya's most famous National Park that borders on the Serengeti in Tanzania. This is a real highlight of your Kenya safari. After lunch you'll set off on your game drive. Your driver has the trained eyes of someone who has lived and worked in this area for most of his life, so he'll be skilled at spotting animals in the Masai Mara. You'll ride across plains and through forested areas, past rivers filled with crocodiles and hippos and past herds of zebras and wildebeest. With a little luck you may even see cheetahs and leopards. Lions and elephants are also common here.

As the sun sets, you'll return to the tented camp where a cold beer and a tasty meal will be waiting for you. After dinner you can sit by the camp fire and share safari stories with your fellow travellers.

You'll spend the night at our tented camp in the Masai Mara.

Day 4: Masai Mara game drive – Nairobi - End of trip

Travel time approx. 6 hours

You'll awaken for your morning game drive before sunrise. After a cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast to brush away the cobwebs, you'll hop into your safari vehicle where the roof will be rolled back. As the sun slowly rises over the Masai Mara, the vast savannah will start to turn orange.

After your game drive, you'll head back Nairobi where your Masai Mara trip ends. The drive is quite substantial and will take approximately 6 hours over very bumpy road.

Alternatively, try an Amboseli safari or, if you're heading for the coast, head to Diani beach. You can also choose to take a domestic flight straight to Mombasa for the beach.

Masai Mara Hot Air Balloon ride

If you can afford it, you'll definitely want to experience an early morning hot air balloon ride. The view of the Masai Mara from high in the sky is spectacular. The price starts from approximately £360 per person and you'll need to make reservations in advance of travelling. Just let us know and we can make all of the necessary arrangements for you.
