Tame rhinos and the flamingo carpetPrivate Kenya SafariRoute: Nairobi - Nakuru - Nanyuki - Sweetwaters National Park - Nairobi During our Sweetwaters National Park adventure, you'll travel from Nairobi to Nanyuki, at the foot of Mount Kenya, where you'll spend the night in a genuine traditional manyatta made from branches and straw. You'll also go on game drives through Sweetwaters National Park and meet Jane Goodall's chimpanzees. Our safari van will also take you to Lake Nakuru National Park, one of Kenya's most famous wildlife parks. Here, thousands of flamingos that make up a living pink carpet at the edge of the lake. After sunset, you'll go on a night-time game drive and early in the morning a tasty breakfast will be waiting for you in the middle of the Africa bush. Day 1: Nairobi - Sweetwaters Game Reserve - NanyukiTravel time approximately 3.5 hoursYou'll be picked up at your hotel in the morning by our driver and travel north straight through the fertile farmland and valleys of the Kikuyi, one of many Kenyan tribes. After watching local life pass by for about 3 hours, you'll begin to see the snowy peaks of Mount Kenya.When you reach the town of Nanyuki you'll change direction and head into the bush. Here you'll find your genuine manyatta, a simple Kenyan home made of branches and straw where you'll spend the night. After lunch you'll head towards Sweetwaters National Park for your first game drive, stopping at Jane Goodall's Chimpanzee Sanctuary along the way. Chimpanzees that were once abandoned or abused as pets are cared for and released back into the wild here. During your visit you'll be able to walk through the woods into which the chimpanzees are released. |

After exploring the forest, you'll get back into the safari van and you'll ride deeper into the Sweetwaters National Park in search of elephants, lions and other wild animals. Once the sun begins to set, you'll drive back to your manyatta where Susan, your personal chef, will have prepared a simply delicious meal. You can enjoy your meal by candlelight on a soft bed of cushions beneath a twinkling sky. It can get pretty cold here in the evenings, so you'll appreciate the campfire. You'll spend the night in a traditional manyatta made from branches and straw. |
Day 2: Nanyuki - Lake NakuruTravel time approx 4.5 hoursThis morning, you can crawl out of your manyatta and see Mount Kenya - a great start to the day! After breakfast, you'll head for Lake Nakuru, where you'll spend the night in your own luxurious safari tent. After lunch, your guide will drive you into Lake Nakuru National Park where you might catch a glimpse of a rhino and even a pride of lions.One of the most impressive sights here are the thousands of flamingos which form a living, moving pink carpet at the edge of the lake. From the look-out point you'll have an incredible view. Today, you'll also go take a camel ride. After an action-packed day, you'll head back to the tented camp where you can hop into a refreshing shower before dinner. You'll spend the night at a tented camp in Lake Nakuru. |

Day 3: Transfer to Nairobi or Masai Mara - End of tourTravel time approx. 3.5 hoursAfter breakfast in the African bush, you'll drive to the Masai Mara or back to Nairobi depending on your next module. If you drive back to Nairobi you'll pass the Great Rift Valley which runs all the way from Egypt to Mozambique!If you would like to visit the world famous Masai Mara after this Sweetwaters National Park tour, you can continue your trip with our A day in the life of the Masai... tour or our Masai Mara tented camp safari. Nanyuki Special Stay - UpgradeIf spending the night in a traditional manyatta isn't really your thing and you would prefer to spend both nights of this module in a comfortable accommodation, we also offer a Special Stay upgrade. You'll spend the night in your own cottage at Lake Nakuru and in a tented camp with a charming atmosphere near Sweetwaters Game Reserve. While in your cottage, made completely of natural materials, you'll as if you're in the real Africa. You'll have your own bathroom and a veranda where you can sit and listen to the sounds of the jungle in the evening. At Sweetwaters there are several permanent, luxury safari tents, with private bathroom and a patio with a view of the watering hole. At night the drinking hole is lit up and while sipping on a cold drink on your patio you can watch the wild animals come to have a drink of their own at the watering hole. There's also a very nice swimming pool where you can go for a refreshing swim. Instead of riding a camel, you'll go on an extra game drive at Sweetwaters National Park if you choose the Special Stay.
