You'll travel privately in a 4x4 drive land cruiser with a roof that rolls back, giving you a 360 degree view of your surroundings. Before long, you'll see African huts and colourfully dressed Masai herders in typical red square cloths. Your driver/guide will take you to Tarangire National Park. |

Day 2: Karatu - Serengeti tented campTravel time approx. 6 hoursAfter breakfast your Tanzania overland tour will continue to the world famous Serengeti National Park, where you'll drive on towards our tented camp with an incredible view of the savannah in the shadow of acacia trees. You'll find yourself on one of the best game drive routes in the area, near the Kirawira and the Grumeti River – this is the place where wildebeest cross the river and where crocodiles lay in waiting of their prey. You'll reach camp around sunset. |
Day 3: Serengeti game drivesBefore sunrise, you'll be awakened by your driver. After a cup of coffee and some biscuits in the land cruiser, you'll set out for an early morning game drive. The Serengeti is located at an altitude of approximately 1200m and can be quite chilly in the morning, so be sure to bring along a warm sweater. You'll travel straight through the vast plains towards Masai territory. After a few hours through rugged terrain and endless plains, you'll drive back to your private camp for breakfast and a siesta. During the afternoon, temperatures can soar and most animals will search for shelter in the shadows. Once the temperatures drop again, you'll head out for your late afternoon game drive in search of wild animals. You'll spend another night at our tented camp in the Serengeti. |

Day 4: Serengeti - Olduvai Gorge - Ngorongoro CraterTravel time approx. 4 hoursToday you'll have to wake up early and while you keep a look out for wild animals you'll drive South through the endless grasslands which the Serengeti is named after (endless plains). Gradually the road will begin to climb, leaving you with a view of the immense Serengeti plains behind you. Along the way you may see a giraffe or two on the road before reaching the Ngorongoro crater at the end of the afternoon. The Ngorongoro crater is also known as the Eighth Wonder of the World and referred to as the Ark of Noah. With a diameter of 18km it is the largest, completely intact crater in the world and it is teeming with wild animals. After you've had a good look at the crater, you'll travel to your lodge. This is the perfect place to start off on a hike through the crater the following morning. You'll spend the night at our charming lodge in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. |
Day 5: Karatu - Moshi/Arusha - End of tripTravel time approx. 3 hoursToday you'll descend into the Ngorongoro crater for a game drive. The crater is filled with wild animals: (many) lions, hundreds of wildebeest and zebras, grunting hippos, cheetahs, leopards, ostriches, jackals and, in the middle of the crater, a lake filled with flamingos. The high walls of the crater edge loom in the distance. After the game drive, you'll travel back to Arusha or Moshi (approx. 3 hours) where your Tanzania overland adventure ends. It's customary to tip the driver. Generally a tip of US25 per day is reasonable. Naturally, this tip can be divided by the number of people travelling with you. |
