Day 1 - Tarangire National ParkTravel time: approximately 3 hoursOur English speaking driver/guide will pick you up and you'll travel by 4x4 land cruiser in a small group of up to 6 people. The land cruiser's roof can be rolled back for a 360 degree view of your surroundings. This Tanzania safari park's most notable features are the baobab trees that grow throughout the park and the large herds of elephants. There's also a very good chance that you'll see lions here and it's one of the few parks in the world with a population of wild dogs.Your driver will bring along a lunch bag for you so that you can spend as much time as possible on your game drive spotting wild animals. As the sun begins to set, you'll slowly begin to drive back to the park's exit all the while enjoying the view. It's approximately a 1.5 hour drive to the town of Karatu. You'll spend the night in our charming lodge or a tented camp, located in the town of Karatu. |

Day 2 - Karatu - Lake Manyara National ParkTravel time: approximately 1 hourAfter breakfast in Karatu you'll drive towards the second of the Tanzanian safari parks. It's approximately a 1 hour drive to Lake Manyara. This relatively small wildlife park was named after the alkaline lake filled with thousands of flamingos roaming the banks for food and hippos taking lazy (mud) baths. However the most famous inhabitants of this park are the tree-climbing lions. Of course in nature there are no guarantees; however, with a little luck you may see one of these cats lazing about on a thick branch. Aside from seeing zebras, wildebeest and impalas, there's a very good chance that you'll see elephants and giraffes here as well.At the end of the day you'll drive back to our lodge/ tented camp in Karatu. |
Day 3 - Karatu - Ngorongoro craterTravel time: approximately 1 hourEarly in the morning you'll head out to see the 'eighth wonder of the world', the Ngorongoro crater. The Ngorongoro crater is, without exaggerating, an absolutely spectacular natural phenomenon and very rightfully a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the largest, intact crater with the highest density of wild animals in the world and is also known as Noah's Ark.It's about an hour drive from Karatu to the entrance of this Tanzania safari park and when you get there your driver will have to sign in first. You'll start out driving through a tropical rainforest type of area, with an occasional glimpse of the crater. Then the land cruiser will slowly take you down into the crater for a game drive. The crater contains lions, hundreds of wildebeest and zebras, hippos, cheetahs, leopards, ostriches, jackals. At the end of the day you'll drive back to our lodge/ tented camp in Karatu. |

Day 4 - Karatu - Serengeti National ParkTravel time: approximately 6 hoursThere's quite a bit of driving to do today and the roads aren't in the best condition. However during the drive you'll be rewarded with a wide view of the sprawling plains dotted only with an occasional hut or two. Sometime late in the afternoon you'll arrive at the Serengeti National Park campsite in the centre of the park. You'll spend the night in a lightweight tent beneath the stars at a basic public campsite without warm water facilities. To us, this is the real Africa. As you sit back next to the campfire your driver will prepare a sumptuous meal for you and the setting sun will make way for an endless starry night sky. If you would prefer to go on a private safari, you could also stay at our tented camp on the edge of the Serengeti (spacious, permanent safari tents). |
Day 5 - Game drives in the SerengetiAfter an early morning wake-up call by your driver, a cup of coffee and some biscuits, you'll set out for a game drive. The Serengeti is located at an altitude of approximately 1200m and can be quite chilly in the morning. A warm sweater and a cap will keep you warm (especially between June and September). You'll travel straight through the vast plains towards the Masai heads. If you can afford it, go on an early morning hot air balloon ride. The view of the Serengeti from high in the sky is spectacular. The price is approximately £360 per person. Reservations are necessary - we can take care of this for you. As temperatures begin to soar in the early afternoon, most animals will take shelter in the shadows. Once the temperatures drop you'll head out for an afternoon game drive. At dusk you'll return to camp (or your lodge) and after dinner you can relax and unwind by campfire. |

Day 6 - Serengeti - Lake NatronTravel time: approximately 6 hoursAfter breakfast you'll head out towards Lake Natron. After spending a few days on safari in our land cruiser, many travellers look forward to being able to stretch their legs a bit. After lunch you'll be able to join a guide on a hike to some waterfalls nearby. You'll hike through an area resembling a lunar landscape, past coloured rocks and sulphur lakes. In the distance you'll see the lake that you'll visit the next morning. Once again you'll spend the night beneath the stars in a lightweight tent at a simple public campsite. If you would choose to go on a private safari, you can also select a more comfortable accommodation option at Lake Natron. We can make arrangements for you to stay at a tented camp. Ask one of our travel specialists for more information and pricing. |
|
Day 7 - Parading flamingos in Lake Natron After breakfast you'll drive towards Lake Natron where thousands of flamingos march proudly along the shores. The lake is filled with minerals, the ideal food for crawfish, which in turn is the favourite food for flamingos and the reason these flamingos have pink feathers. If you enjoy photography, this is an excellent place to take pictures. The immense lake is located at the foot of the active volcano, Oldonyo Lengai, which is Masai for 'Mountain of God'. You'll have the entire morning to enjoy the view and after lunch you can head for camp at your own pace. Once you reach the camp you'll be able to enjoy your African natural surroundings while having a hearty meal. Once you start to feel your eyelids getting heavy, you can crawl back into your tent for your last night in the bush. |

|
Day 8 - Lake Natron - KaratuTravel time: approximately 6 hoursYou'll wake up at your own pace at the Lake Natron camp and from that point on the rest of the day will be dedicated to experiencing African culture. Today you'll visit a Masai village near your campsite where you'll experience the Masai culture and way of life. Let these smiling, happy people surprise you. The Masai enjoy telling hunting stories about their ancestors and will show you the most beautiful locations in this area.In the afternoon you'll drive towards Karatu for your last night and dinner here. For this last evening we'll make reservations for you to stay at a luxurious tented safari camp, allowing you to end your safari in style. The following day you'll drive back to Arusha or Moshi. |
Day 9 - Karatu - Moshi/ArushaTravel time: approximately 3 hoursToday your Tanzania safari through the most famous Tanzania safari parks will come to an end. After a 3 hour drive you'll arrive back in the modern-day world. It's customary to tip the driver at the end of the trip. As a guideline, we recommend tipping US$ 20 per day. Naturally this tip can be divided by the number of people travelling with you so that each person can pay a share. If you would like to continue travelling you can choose from one of our shorter Moshi tours. Interested in a more active module? Then you can also go on a 3 day Tanzania camping trip or even or climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Or are you in the mood for relaxing on Zanzibar beaches? * You can also choose to visit Lake Natron before continuing on to the Serengeti during this 9-day Create your own Tanzania safari module. |
