Day 1 - Moshi/Arusha - Tarangire

Travel time approximately 3 hours

Our english speaking driver/guide will pick you up at Kilimanjaro Airport or from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. You'll travel in a 4x4 land cruiser. The roof of the safari van will roll back, giving you a 360 degree view of your surroundings so you get the most on your Tanzania wildlife adventure. Once you head out of the city, and before long you'll see the first African huts and colourfully dressed Masai herders in their red squared cloths.

Your driver/guide will take you to Tarangire National Park, where the landscape is different from other wildlife parks in Tanzania. The most distinguishing features of the park are the unusual Baobab trees and the large herds of elephants that live here. There's also a very good chance that you'll encounter lions and maybe even wild dogs in the park. At the end of the day you'll drive for another 3 hours until you reach the town of Karatu.

You'll spend the night at our tented camp/lodge in the town of Karatu, just outside the park (or inside the park for an additional cost).

Day 2 - Karatu - Serengeti camp

Travel time approx 6 hours

After breakfast you'll drive towards the gate of the world famous Serengeti National Park. While on the look-out for wild animals you'll drive on towards our private campsite, in the middle of the bush, in the heart of the Serengeti, which we'll reach by sunset. You'll find everything you need taken care of for you. You'll live in the outdoors, in the middle of rugged natural surroundings. We have our own mobile 'private camp' for which we bring along everything we need: tents, camping beds, comfortable safari chairs, a complete kitchen, a (warm) shower and a chemical toilet. We consider it the best way possible to truly experience a Tanzania wildlife adventure.

You'll spend the night in lightweight tents beneath the stars in our Serengeti private camp.

Day 3 - Game drives in the Serengeti

Even before the sun creeps up above the horizon, you'll be awakened by your driver. After a cup of coffee and some biscuits in the land cruiser, you'll set out for an early morning game drive. The Serengeti is located at an altitude of approximately 1200m and can be quite chilly in the morning. Be sure to bring along a warm sweater and a cap since it can be quite chilly in the early morning. You'll travel straight through the vast plains towards the Masai hunter territory.

After driving for a few hours, straight through rugged terrain and endless plains, your stomach may start to growl. Gradually you'll drive back to your private camp for breakfast and a nap. During the afternoon temperatures can soar and most animals will search for shelter in the shadows. Once the temperatures drop somewhat you'll head out for the afternoon game drive in search of wild animals.

After this game drive you'll return to our private camp for another night beneath the stars in the Serengeti.

Day 4 - Serengeti - Ngorongoro Crater

Travel time approx 4 hours

Today you'll have to wake up early and while you keep a look out for wild animals you'll drive southwards. As you drive along, trees and bushes will become scarce. You'll travel through the endless grasslands which the Serengeti is named after (endless plains). Gradually the road will begin to climb, leaving you with a view of the immense Serengeti plains behind you. Along the way you may see a giraffe or two on the road before reaching the Ngorongoro crater at the end of the afternoon. The Ngorongoro crater is also known as the Eighth Wonder of the World and referred to as the Ark of Noah. With a diameter of 18km it is the largest, completely intact crater in the world and it is teeming with wild animals.

Slowly you'll ride our 4x4 land cruiser into the crater and you'll be amazed by what you'll see. All around live elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards, wildebeest, buffalos, antelopes, hippos and there's an alkaline lake filled with flamingos. After the game drive you'll leave the crater and head towards the town of Karatu, which lies approximately two hours by car from the crater.

You'll spend the last night of this Tanzania wildlife adventure in our lodge or in the tented camp in the town of Karatu.

Day 5 - Karatu - Moshi/Arusha

Travel time approx 3 hours

Today your Tanzania wildlife adventure through the most famous wilderness parks will come to an end. After a 3 hour drive you'll be back in the civilised world. It's customary to tip the driver. Generally a tip of US$ 25 per day is reasonable. Naturally this tip can be divided by the number of people travelling with you.

If you would like to continue travelling you can choose from one of our shorter modules from Moshi such as Pick your own coffee.

Interested in a more active module? Then you can also choose from Cycling through the Kili villages or Africa at your feet.
