Zanzibar beaches - Fun for everyone

In the mood for Zanzibar

For most people, Zanzibar conjures up images of endless ivory white beaches, swaying palm trees and an azure blue sea. Well, that's exactly what you can expect. Zanzibar is nothing less than paradise on earth. Aside from having all the ingredients of a tropical paradise and incredible marine life, Zanzibar has even more to offer. You'll find small, remote villages in the green heart of the island that seem to be frozen in time and you can visit one of the area’s spice farms that grow a variety of cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper.

You'll stay in one of our small-scale beach resorts on the beach, where you can daydream in your own hammock. Before flying home, you'll spend a night in an traditional hotel in the heart of the mystical Stone Town, where you can spend hours shopping for souvenirs in the winding alleyways surrounding your hotel. There's no better place than Zanzibar to end an unforgettable Kenya and Tanzania holiday.

On arrival in Zanzibar, you'll be greeted by our driver and transferred to the East Coast. On the way, you'll drive through the green interior of the island, past villages with thatched roofs and waving. The East Coast of Zanzibar is, without exaggerating, one of the most beautiful tropical coasts of the world. You'll walk straight into a postcard: pearly white Zanzibar beaches, swaying palms and an azure sea.

During our search for the most beautiful locations in the area, we found a number of small scale Zanzibar beach resorts on the East Coast with real warmth and character.

The staff at these resorts is extremely friendly and helpful. Each resort has a swimming pool and are located directly on the beach (see accommodation images at the bottom of the page). These are the most extraordinary places to end your Kenya and Tanzania safari.

Days 2 and 3: Zanzibar East Coast beach resort

The next two days are completely free. You can lounge in a hammock on the beach with a good book and a dip or two in the sea. However, there's also much more to do here. You can rent a jeep for the day (if available, approximately US$50 per day) and explore the island on your own, or take a local spice tour with a guide (approximately US$90 per day).

A snorkelling trip is a definite highlight of any visit to Zanzibar. For around US$15 a boat will take you to a nearby reef or, for approx. US$80, a boat will take you to the tropical islands of Memba or Fumba where you can go on fantastic dives.

Day 4: Stone Town

After breakfast you'll say goodbye to this very special place and our driver will tke you to Stone Town. Of course, you can extend your stay with one or more nights if you wish.

Zanzibar and Stone Town are simply magical. Hundreds of years ago, Stone Town was a booming centre of trade between Asia, the Middle East and Africa. There's a mystical Arabian atmosphere here and the locals are very friendly and hospitable.

You'll stay in a beautiful and authentic hotel in the historic part of town. You can spend hours strolling through the small winding alleyways and there are so many souvenirs that you won't know where to look! Feel like having a cup of fresh coffee? Ask around until you find the Zanzibar Coffee House, which also bakes amazing brownies. You can also choose to take a guided tour to the historic attractions in Stone Town. The hotel reception area can make the necessary arrangements for you. In the evening, you can have a bite to eat at the hotel or try one of the restaurants by the waterfront. We recommend the Monsoon Restaurant, which serves good local delicacies either inside or out on the terrace.

Day 5: Stone Town - Zanzibar Airport - End of trip

After breakfast you'll be picked up by our driver and say goodbye to the exotic Zanzibar. It's about a ten minute drive to the airport, near Stone Town.

Most travellers book the afternoon flight with KLM/Kenya Airways back to Nairobi and catch the connecting flight back to the UK from there. If you wish, we can add a flight quote to your Kenya & Tanzania travel plan - just ask on the quote request form.

Comfort Beach Resort - Upgrade Option

If you really want to go all out during your beach getaway and would like to stay at a luxurious beachfront accommodation, then our upgrade option may be what you're looking for. As in most parts of Zanzibar, you won't find any lively boulevards nearby so you'll only have the hotel's facilities available to you. These facilities are top notch and provide a very luxurious ambiance. The pearl white beaches and the translucent turquoise pool are great for cooling off and winding down. The entire property is very well decorated with attention to detail. You'll stay here on a half-board basis.

Backpacker's Paradise - Budget Option

Very modest and basic accommodation with more of a 'backpacker' feel than most of our accommodation options on Zanzibar. We've found beach bungalows right on the edge of some of the Zanzibar's most exotic ivory white beaches. It's nothing less than a backpacker's paradise!

Don't expect luxury. You'll stay at a modest accommodation right on the beach. There's a small restaurant that can whip up the most tantalising meals, naturally many of which with fresh fish. After a meal you can relax in one of the hanging chairs beneath a canopy of palm leaves.

If you're looking for you own bubble of paradise right off of an exotic ivory-sand beach, but don't want to break the bank... than this is the place for you. Your stay here is based on half-board.
